Cersaie, the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings, was held at the Bologna Exhibition Centre in Italy from 21 to 25 September 2026. It is where much of the tile industry goes to see where design is heading next. Our Managing Director walked the halls this year, and one message stood out clearly: surfaces with depth, the 3D and 4D look, are where the market is moving. The good news for our buyers is simple. This is not something Capron has to start developing. It is already in our portfolio.
This post is for importers, distributors, architects and interior designers who want to understand the trend and know where to source it.
What we saw at Cersaie
Walking the stands in Bologna, the strongest pattern our MD saw first-hand was texture. Tiles were no longer just flat prints of stone or wood. Many of the displays that drew crowds had surfaces you want to touch: raised patterns, carved-looking relief, punched details and finishes that change as the light moves across them.
The look was used on feature walls, on large floor areas and on facades. Designers were mixing a textured feature tile with a calm plain or matt tile around it, so the 3D surface becomes the highlight of the room rather than the whole room.
These are our own observations from the show floor, not official exhibition figures. But the direction was hard to miss.
Why 3D and 4D surfaces are trending
There are a few reasons buyers and specifiers are moving towards surfaces with depth:
- They give a premium look without extra decoration. A textured wall does the job of panelling or cladding.
- They photograph well. Hotels, showrooms, restaurants and offices want spaces that look good on camera.
- They add character to plain, modern architecture, where flat surfaces can feel cold.
- Light does the work. Side lighting or wall washers bring out the relief and change the mood through the day.
For importers, this means demand from projects and premium retail is shifting. Having a textured range on the shelf is becoming part of a complete offer, not a niche extra.
Where to use 3D and 4D tiles
- Feature walls in living rooms, bedrooms and reception areas.
- Elevations and exterior walls, where texture catches daylight.
- Bathrooms, as a highlighter wall behind a basin or in a shower area.
- Hotel lobbies, restaurants, retail stores and showrooms, where first impressions matter.
- Floors and walls together, using a calm matt tile around the textured area.
A practical tip for designers: use the textured tile on one surface and keep the surrounding surfaces quieter. This lets the design stand out and keeps the space easy to live with.

Capron's 3D and 4D range
Capron has been designing surfaces for how spaces are actually used, matching the expectations of architects, interior designers and premium homeowners. Our aim is a great combination of luxury look, performance and easy maintenance. Our 3D and 4D range is the AIR series:
- AIR, AIR PRO and AIR PLUS: Shape surface with double digital surface, all anti-scratch and advisable for both floor and wall. AIR PRO adds a glossy granula and AIR PLUS a matt granula finish.
- VERSE: Anti-scratch matt surface made for high-traffic areas. Use it as the calm partner tile around an AIR feature wall or floor, or on its own for busy floors.

Frequently asked questions
What is a 3D or 4D tile?
It is a tile whose surface has visible depth, such as raised patterns, punched details or relief, rather than a flat print. The texture changes with light and gives a more premium, natural look.
Are 3D tiles only for walls?
No. Many are used on walls and elevations, but some Capron surfaces such as AIR, AIR PRO and AIR PLUS are advisable for both floor and wall. Ask us which design suits your area.
Can textured tiles be used outdoors?
Yes, with the right surface. Tell us the area and how much foot traffic it gets, and our team will suggest the right Capron surface for it.
Is the 3D and 4D range new for Capron?
No. The AIR series is already part of our portfolio, so buyers can order it now rather than wait for new development.
